Rehovot-based HealOr’s proprietary treatment gets to the bottom of the problem of skin wounds that refuse to heal.
healorIn the same way that “good” cholesterol and “bad” cholesterol must be in proper proportion for healthy arteries, “good” and “bad” forms of a protein called kinase must be balanced for wounded skin to repair itself.
The Israeli company HealOr (www.healor.com) discovered that too much “bad” kinase is the reason chronic skin wounds – including foot ulcers afflicting about two million American diabetics — refuse to heal.
Its flagship product, a drug currently under testing in a Phase II/III clinical trial in the United States, Israel and India, activates the “good” kinase and inhibits the “bad” kinase to balance the chemical scales and spur healing of painful holes in the skin.

This is a revolutionary approach, says the nine-year-old company’s former chief medical officer and new CEO, Dr. Michael L. Sabolinski of Boston.
When a chronic wound happens and there isn’t enough good kinase to outweigh the bad, you have to go in and balance the seesaw, and that is the intent of HealOr,” says Sabolinski.
“We’re focused on protein kinase because it affects skin cell growth factors, molecular pathways which trigger cells to migrate, proliferate and lay down a new matrix. The drug also has beneficial effects on the deepest layer, the hypodermis, and the immune system in the skin – all components which are important for the healing process of a wound, specifically a chronic wound in which almost all these processes are impaired.
kinase
HealOr’s product, made from a sequence of amino acids, is a topical liquid that patients can easily apply themselves.

Sabolinski, who previously managed the team that secured two FDA approvals for a living skin substitute made by Organogenesis, expects that related products in the HealOr pipeline will prove valuable in the fields of dermatology, ophthalmology and cancer oncology – systems that are also affected by epithelial cell health.
We focus on all layers of skin because neither provides the complete answer,” he stresses. “All layers have to function together to heal a wound. This is something that wasn’t known until the last 10 years.”
Several randomized, controlled trials now underway each follow patients for three to five months. “The patient uses the liquid daily for up to 14 weeks until the wound is healed,” Sabolinski says. “The safety has been demonstrated and adverse effects are few.”
Though he cannot predict when FDA regulatory approval will be finalized, his hope is that “you can have it on your shelf in two years — no longer than five.” The product may be cleared for use in India before the United States.
Another advantage is that the product could easily be synthesized at labs anywhere, making it possible to commercialize it at a level appropriate to the large potential market. Some 30 million to 40 million people in the US alone suffer from diabetes, and chronic wounds affect others as well.
Sabolinski has more than 25 years of experience in wound-care research with a background in biochemistry and immunology. He has sponsored various clinical investigations of treatments for patients with acute and chronic wounds, and was instrumental in developing a partnership with Novartis Pharmaceuticals to market Organogenesis’ leading skin product globally.

“The company’s board unanimously selected Sabolinski based on his impressive and proven track record in the wound-care field,” said Dr. Pini Orbach, a member of HealOr’s board of directors.

Founded in 2002, the Rehovot-based HealOr is a privately owned specialty biopharmaceutical company. “Or” is the Hebrew word for “skin” and it is this – the body’s largest organ – that is the focus of its research.
“Skin’s primary purpose is to be a barrier to bacteria and viruses,” Sabolinski says. “If you have a hole in the skin, that opens the floodgates for disease, and it hurts too. You want to close the hole as fast as possible. That’s the bottom line.”

SPECTACULAR HEAVENLY SHOW EXPECTED THIS YEAR

Spectacular heavenly show expected this year

Comet ISON to pass through asteroid belt, sidestep Mars

Hale-Bopp
Later this year, Comet ISON will pass through the asteroid belt, enter the Inner Solar System and sidestep Mars on its way past Earth, putting on what scientists expect will be a spectacular heavenly show that is not to be missed.

Astronomers are calling it the “comet of the century.”
Comets offer one of the most spectacular celestial scenes the unaided human eye can see. By November or December, ISON is expected to be brighter than a full moon. Some believe it will be up to 15 times brighter.
While ISON may prove to be brighter than any other comet of the last century, this trip may also be its swan song, as it is projected to end its flight in a fiery death in the sun.

Read about the solar flares that are forecast to hit at the same time, in “A Nation Forsaken – EMP: The Escalating Threat of an American Catastrophe.”

Comets are made of several parts. The core, or nucleus, is a solid snowball of dust and ice. As the comet nears the sun, the nucleus heats up, releasing the mixture of gas, called the coma, and dust, which forms the tail. There is also a plasma ion tail, which can be several hundred million miles long.
Occasionally, a comet is dislodged from its orbit and makes its way toward Earth.
ISON against background stars
Comet ISON, currently in the vicinity of Jupiter, was discovered by two Russian amateur astronomers, Vitali Nevski and Artyom Novichonok, using a 16-inch International Scientific Optical Network telescope in Vitebsk, Belarus. The comet possibly came from the Kuiper Belt, a region of icy small bodies beyond Neptune.
ISON, for the moment, is a faint object, visible only in sophisticated telescopes, but that will change in the next few months.
British astronomer David Whitehouse, in the London Independent, reports that by the end of summer, it will become visible in small telescopes and binoculars.
By October, the comet will pass close to Mars, and it will start to become exciting. The surface of the comet will begin to shift as it nears the sun. As it continues to warm, the surface will crack, releasing small puffs of gas from its core, forming the comet’s tail. Slowly at first, but with increasing energy, the gas and dust will reflect even more of the sun’s light
By autumn, the view should be remarkable.

FEDS IDENTIFY 2nd AMENDMENT ACTIVISTS AS TERRORISTS IN OHIO DRILL

Feds identify 2nd Amendment activists as terrorists in Ohio drill

On Thursday, the Ohio National Guard 52nd Civil Support Unit descended upon the sleepy berg of Portsmouth to run a mock disaster drill. In this case, they practiced their response to the potential release of a chemical, biological or radiological weapon.
The exercise was overseen by the Ohio Emergency Management Agency. In addition to the National Guard, local police and fire departments were also involved.
While such terror drills have become somewhat commonplace since the 9/11 attacks, this one included a telling and rather frightening twist...
WSAZ reported: "The make-believe scenario is timely. Two school employees who are disgruntled over the government's interpretation of the Second Amendment, plot to use chemical, biological and radiological agents against members of the local community."
Angry yet?
No?
Then see what this public official had to say...
Portsmouth Fire Chief Bill Raison told the Portsmouth Daily Times:
"I think sometimes we tend to think of terrorism as just international terrorism. What's the likelihood that's coming to Portsmouth, Ohio? Most people think it's not very likely. But we forget that there's a lot of domestic terrorism. There's organizations and things that go on within the United States that can be every bit as devastating as the international terrorism is."
Really?
Where would someone get such an idea?
Perhaps, from Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Janet Napolitano who has described gun owners and veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars as potential terrorists.
In April 2009, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) issued a report entitled "Rightwing Extremism: Current Economic and Political Climate Fueling Resurgence in Radicalization and Recruitment."
The report claimed that "rightwing extremism" is not limited to religious and racial hate groups but extends to "those that are mainly anti-government, rejecting federal authority in favor of state or local authority, or rejecting government authority entirely."
"It may include groups and individuals that are dedicated to a single issue, such as opposition to abortion or immigration," said the report.
That's right...according to the Obama administration anyone who believes that babies should be protected are just as dangerous as al Queda.
Read the entire DHS report...
Of course, if Napolitano was truly interested in stopping threats to the homeland, she could direct National Guard units to the U.S./Mexican border and stop the flow of illegal aliens, drug smugglers and human traffickers coming into this country country every single day.
However, it is painfully obvious that the Obama administration feels more threatened by men and women who have sworn an oath to protect this nation from tyrants, as well as by Americans who simply exercise and refuse to relinquish their Constitutional rights.
Every American, regardless of their political affiliation should be wary of any president who seems to view our founding principles with such disdain.

ILLEGAL ALIENS TO FIND MONTANA UNWELCOME

Illegal aliens to find Montana unwelcome

Proposal would penalize any 'sanctuary' plan

WASHINGTON – A year ago Montanans decided they would withhold state services from illegal aliens, and now their lawmakers are preparing to take the next step to make sure state residents are in the United States legally.
The legislature is reviewing a bill that would penalize any city that chooses to establish a “sanctuary” policy.

The move comes just as the debate in Washington over amnesty for illegal aliens commences, putting Montana at the head of the line in addressing the issue.
State Rep. Krayton Kerns, R-Laurel, a supporter of Montana House Bill 50, said the plan “prohibits cities and municipalities in Montana from setting up a sanctuary city status and sets up a mechanism whereby state funds will be withhold if they set up a sanctuary city status.”
HB 50 states, “A local governing body may not enact, adopt, implement, or enforce a sanctuary policy and may not refer a sanctuary policy to the electors of the governing body’s jurisdictional area.”
It further holds that any state agency handing out state funding may require cities to certify that they are in compliance with the policy “as a condition of funding.”
“We like to be favorable place for legal aliens, legal residents and all citizens … [however] we are trying to be an unfavorable place to illegal aliens,” Kerns said.
The bill is currently in the Montana House Judiciary Committee and will be voted on Friday.
Asked by WND if he thinks it will pass, Kerns said, “I think it will.”
Kerns, a veterinarian, hosts his own blog and is the author of the book “Ramblings of a Conservative Cow Doctor.”
According to the Great Falls Tribune, the bill’s sponsor, Rep. David Howard, R-Park City, said HB 50 “creates a defense in wonderful Montana where they won’t come here.”
He clarified the sole purpose of the bill “is to protect Montanans.”
Kerns noted it’s not the first time the bill has been introduced.
“The last one the former governor [Brian Schweitzer] vetoed.”
Schweitzer, a Democrat, was succeeded by Steve Bullock, another Democrat.
Just last year, Montanans voted 79.5 percent in favor of LR 121, which denied state services to illegal aliens.
According to the Federation of Americans for Immigration Reform, illegal aliens cost Montanans about $32 million, the lowest state total in the nation.
